$2,467.92 of $25,000
We have taken a big leap in setting our goal for the year! Reaching this amount will allow us to provide funding to oligonucleotide genetic research projects and get that much closer to Finding Casey's Cure!
Your donation will continue to directly contribute to the rapidly developing field of genetic engineering to cure muscular dystrophy.
Casey's cells are currently driving a research project in Arizona State University Medical School. Your gift will keep that research going as they search for the medical answer that triggers Casey's disease at age 30.
Her Hereditary Myopathy with Early Respiratory Failure Muscular Dystrophy is a progressively debilitating disease caused by weakness and muscle wasting across the legs, hips, and most importantly, the respiratory tract, leading to a life on a ventilator.
A cure is close -
- HMERF is 100% fatal - there is no cure- no treatment
- HMERF is a late-onset disease - after diagnosis patients have about a 10-15 year life expectancy post-diagnosis
- HMERF patients become symptomatic later in life unaware they carry this gene and that it has a 50-50 chance of affecting each individual child
The Foundation for Casey's Cure is a tax-exempt public charity (federal tax ID #843487838). All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. No goods or services were provided in exchange for your generous financial donation.
