Fundraisers

We have been given a challenge donation of $500 by Kindest.  The first $500 donated to this memorial will be matched dollar for dollar by Kindest.

Our goal is to establish a memorial to Tarrant County service members killed as a result of the Vietnam War.  221 servicemen lost their lives due to that conflict.  We want to memorialize each person on a memorial in Veterans Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

The Vietnam War Era is defined as the time from February 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975. 

At least 221 Tarrant County residents died as a result of that conflict yet; there is no physical memorial in Tarrant County to honor those people and the sacrifices and lost to their families and loved ones. 

A coalition of Tarrant County and national veterans, patriotic groups, and the Fort Worth Parks Department have come together to change this. We are proposing that a memorial be designed, built, and installed at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Fort Worth in September of 2020, coinciding with the National Medal of Honor Society’s annual conference in Fort Worth that month. The design will be determined through a contest, open to elementary, middle, and high school students in North Texas. 

The design of the memorial will be no larger than 5’ tall by 9’ long. It can be constructed of any material but should be considered weather resistant since it will be displayed out of doors. At a minimum, all service people shown on the memorial will be listed by name, the branch of service, date of death, and hometown. 

Three winners will receive cash awards of $500 for the first-place winner, $300 for second place and $200 for the third-place finalist. Entries will include a written description and interpretation and be accompanied by visual depictions of the memorial as it will appear when completed. 

Entries will be judged on originality, style, creativity, and accuracy of information depicted. 

The entry deadline is November 11, 2019. Entries and design will become the property of the Tarrant County Vietnam Memorial Committee.
