Support Friends of Firefighters
Help us cross the $50,000 hurdle to ensure we can meet the mental health needs of our NYC firefighters for as long as they need us.
A note regarding Covid-19: Our hearts are with everyone during this time. We know it's a struggle for those out of work, for those navigating life at home, and for those - like us - trying to keep their small organizations afloat. We are grateful to still be here for FDNY community amidst a pandemic while taking all the precautions to do so.
These last few months our NYC firefighters have been thrust to the forefront of a global health crisis with no choice but to respond to emergency calls. One Fire Department of New York battalion chief said his personal response to this pandemic already overshadows 9/11 as the crisis he will tell his grandkids about.
Every day our counselors are meeting with new and existing clients through our secure telehealth platform and facilitating weekly drop-in support groups for FDNY firefighters and family members in need of emotional support. We have not stopped providing sensitive and responsive outreach to all FDNY firehouses and retiree groups, delivering care packages of masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer to every NYC firehouse, and continually assessing the needs, courses of action and resource requirements of the FDNY community. We now have a bi-weekly newsletter that we use to share healthy living tips, videos and wellness ideas.
Friends like you make it possible for Friends of Firefighters to continue providing free, confidential, and vital services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their family members. Now more than ever, we are committed to providing a safe (virtual) space for members of the community to come and receive help. We hope you will join us in supporting them.
