Children's Story Books on Conservation, Regeneration & Harmony with Nature in Central America
Proud Board Member!!
Celebrating and cultivating powerful teaching, meaningful learning, and transformative education for living in harmony with nature, la madretierra (mother earth), and our comunidad planetaria (planetary community).
The Research Foundation for the Innovation of Eco-Education is a 501c3 non-profit organization that researches, promotes, and advances ecological, environmental, and socially-regenerative education for children and youth in Central America and beyond.
In January 2021, we will launch a children's storybook series that promotes conservation, regeneration and a harmonious, interdependent relationship with nature. There will be one illustrated storybook for each country in the region, to educate young children about taking care of our planet. Through a contest recruitment process, a local author and illustrator will be selected to create the storybook that will be based on the culture, language, history and ecological experiences of Central American communities.
This project represents the essence of the Research Foundation for the Innovation of Eco-Education (a 501c3 non-profit) and our drive to research and develop environmental education pedagogies, practices, and materiales designed with and for local communities in the Central American region.
The stories emerge from the creativity, research and experiences of young and aspiring Central American writers and artists. With the support of the Research Foundation, the product will be a means to promote literature with cultural relevance, a didactic resource to support engaging teaching of environmental issues in local public schools, and an engine to promote the protection and conservation of nature across communities and generations.
OUR PROJECT GOALS
- To create and distribute a culturally- and linguistically-responsive series of illustrated children’s storybooks, one per country of the Central American region (Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, El Salvador, Panama), in order to familiarize children with local ecological challenges and ways to protect the environment.
- To support teachers with activity ideas related to ecological themes in the story.
- To support local children’s authors and illustrators of Central America and familiarize them with issues of local environmentalism, conservation, and regeneration.
