#2020SUMMERENRICHMENT Challenge
As the COVID-19 crisis intensifies, so does the work and our resolve. We remain committed to Martin County’s most vulnerable families and our efforts are growing each day. We are looking for corporate partners who wish to join us in helping families.
Families in east Stuart are in crisis left with difficult decisions in the wake of COVID-19. With the School District’s decision to close summer programs and reduced capacities required for other camps, hundreds of families are left without options for child-care over the next eight weeks. Worse, children without the necessary supports and technologies to succeed - or even stay on track during distance learning - have lost 3 months of academic instruction. The effects that "COVID kids" will endure for years to come is still unknown. We are familiar with the "summer slide," but the "COVID Slide," like so much associated with this pandemic, is a deeply concerning mystery. Preliminary “COVID Slide” estimates suggest students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year. However, in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains, returning with less than 50% and in some grades, returning nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions. The children of east Stuart, with your help, will have access to our award winning academic, character building, and healthy lifestyles programs. Opening a Stuart “Pop-up Club” is crucial now more than ever.
