Cardiac Arrest can happen in Anyplace, at Anytime, to Anybody
Imagine being at home, watching your favorite sports team play on TV, then suddenly a player collapses in the middle of the field and you find out later, he had died. Many people growing up in Nigeria during the 1980s remember this scenario all too well. Samuel Okwaraji was a shining star, a Nigerian mid-fielder who collapsed on 8/12/1989 during a World Cup qualifying game at the National Stadium in Nigeria. Sadly, had cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) been available and used in the stadium at that time, the outcome could have been much different.
At this time, there is still a lack of resources in Nigeria, including a dire shortage of AEDs, resulting in a exceedingly high fatality rate from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Aligning with our mission to improve cardiac care in Africa, Revolving Hearts Foundation seeks to change this narrative by providing AEDs in public places, making it possible for more people to effectively respond to medical emergencies.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED), is a vital, life-saving device that strengthens the chain of survival in sudden cardiac arrest by delivering an electrical shock (defibrillation), to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. AED use, in addition to CPR, increases the chance of survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest by more than 40% and is vital in bringing hearts Back To Life!
We are focused on increasing AED accessibility in Nigeria
Unlike the U.S. where all 50 states have active regulations requiring AEDs to be installed and accessible in public places, Nigeria, which has 36 states, has no laws and/or regulations surrounding AED devices.
Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and the lack of awareness and accessibility of AEDs is a Public Health issue that must be addressed.
Please stand with Revolving Hearts to address this matter.
We rely on our donor community to help reach our goals
