Bethel Bower Blount Endowed Scholarship
In July of 2017, the estate of William Edward Harms bequeathed to Dallas International University a gift for the establishment of an endowed scholarship in honor of Bethel Bowers Blount. Mrs. Blount served with SIL in Mexico for many years while single. After retirement, she married Turner Blount, a widower who had previously served with his first wife in the Americas. Although we are unclear as to how Mr. Harms and Mrs. Blount met, it is certain that Mr. Harms admired Mrs. Blount’s work in translation and wished to honor her service by providing for the training of the next generation of cross-cultural workers.
