Our Families Need Us: We're Back at the Hangar!
This year we are happy to be returning to our 40-year beloved tradition making sure our Head Start families have fresh food, a gift card and our joyous in-person holiday giveaway parties – complete with Santa Claus, music, crafts, popcorn and of course tons of hugs.
While so much is going on in the world that we cannot directly affect, our Head Start families living here in our community also need our help. We are asking you to help struggling families have a special holiday this year.
Many of you have supported our Holiday Food Program over the years. Your donations and volunteering have made all we do possible.
Anything you can give will help.
For every $25 donation, we will send you a holiday card to give as a gift.
What began in 1983 with just seventy families has helped thousands of families over the last 40 years. Every year, the One Voice Holiday Food Program provides Christmas food baskets, toys and books to Head Start families living in poverty in the Los Angeles area. All of the families meet federal and state mandated poverty levels.
Our Holiday Food Program depends on the support and involvement of people living within our community. Over 2,000 volunteers come together every year at the Barker Hangar to sort and package the food during the week before the actual giveaway, and most importantly, are on hand at our various Head Start distribution centers to personally give out the food with a sense of caring and love.
Living in poverty is especially hard during the holidays when there are no resources to make the season special. The food, toys, books and celebration provided by the One Voice volunteers bring much needed hope to families living in poverty that lasts well beyond the holiday season.
