Learning Center at Haskatasun
Support our Learning Center at Haskatasun
Our mission from day one has been to bring Waldorf education to the community and make it accessible for all families. We find ourselves today in a place of deep gratitude for all of the support on this path, no matter how windy it has been.
The story of bringing Waldorf education to the Tahoe Truckee area is a long and compelling one, and while the length and narrative serves as a foundation, the story pales in comparison to the possibility and longevity of our future.
Eight years ago a small group of like-minded families came together to create a beautiful space for their children; we called it Cedar Sage. With Bonnie River and her 40-year experience in Waldorf education and a passion for founding public Waldorf charter schools, we slowly, purposefully and intentionally grew our community. Today this passionate group of students and parents is 78 families strong with a solid support system and a clear mission.
The journey has not been simple or straightforward, however it has been fortifying and filled with impactful lessons and infused with the quality and common thread of resilience.
We find ourselves today on yet another part of this journey. A part of renewal and of fortification. With your donation we will continue guiding our children in a Waldorf inspired Learning Center with their beloved teachers and cherished community of friends.
Today we ask you to join us on our path for fostering noble leaders, ethical thinkers and global citizens. This world needs the values, ethics and human qualities that Waldorf education fosters.
We understand that all families have different financial circumstances and welcome donations of money, time, thought, inspiration, movement and motivation, this is how we measure currency.
Haskatasun, is “a home for your imagination to run free under the sun.” It is the name of our "campus", and our home place. Forty acres of eastside pine and sage, Haskatasun is nestled above Prosser Creek. Traveled over time by ice and rock, the summertime Washoe, Basque sheepherders, and trails of migratory deer, we are not the first people to cross these lands, and we may not be the last. We hope to learn as much from this swath of land that the others that have crossed through, and care for it so that other may do the same.
Currently, Haskatasun is home to our Waldorf inspired learning center. Additionally, Haskatasun is home to our Wild Spaces programming, and our Community Special Events and Festivals. The future promises so much more. 40 acres of vision is a beautiful and heavy lift. We have many willing hands and so many collective assets.
Waldorf education in Truckee is important. Help us foster the ethical thinkers this world needs!
