Cat Rescue & Adoption Network

Update: We have a very generous donor who is matching up to $5,000. Donations must be made on or before September 3rd to qualify. We are at $18,000. With this amazing offer, we would almost be at our goal! 

Thanks to your kindness, CRAN was able to care for more than 1,100 cats and kittens in 2022! Many of these cats needed special medical care and because of you, we were able to give them the help they needed.
This year started out on a calm note but with spring’s arrival came kittens and more kittens: female cats in medical distress due to problem pregnancies and births; abandoned kittens, well-intentioned rescuers “rescuing” kittens from a feral mama kitty (it is much better for kittens to stay with their mom until they are weaned and can then be trapped and socialized or can be fostered with their mom). As of the end of May, CRAN has taken dozens of kittens into our program. Some kittens come with mama cat, many do not. Some kittens are healthy, many arrive with viral or bacterial infections, parasites, and injuries. Thank goodness for our CRAN foster volunteers, offering safe, loving care for the littlest ones.
In keeping with our mission statement to take in and care for special needs kitties, we would like to introduce some of them. Meet Sarge, an 8-year-old tabby who was surrendered due to his owner’s own health challenges. Sarge is friendly, sweet, and severely overweight, which has brought on diabetes. He is so sweet and good-natured, as we learn to manage his blood glucose levels and diet. Next, meet Sissy and her litter, the Space Cadets. Sissy is a feral mom who gave birth in a dog kennel on some property outside of town. Thankfully, the property owner reached out for help. Sissy can go back to the property fixed and vaccinated, where she is loved and will be cared for, and the Space Cadets can find their forever homes.
Then there’s Mango, surrendered at a local emergency vet clinic with a badly shattered and poorly healed broken leg. Now a tripod cat following an amputation, Mango is thriving and just found his forever home with loving adopters. Next, meet Lionel. We were able to provide medical care for Lionel, a CRAN kitten who took his adventures to new heights, and unfortunately broke a leg on the way down from one of those adventures. And finally, meet Squid. Her labor stopped cold due to a kitten blocking the birth canal. Without emergency medical care, Squid and her remaining kittens would have all died. Amazingly she and half of her litter survived the traumatic birth. Without the generosity and support of our CRAN family, we couldn’t have helped these cats.
We would not be able to help the cats like Sarge or Mango or Lionel, or the mama kitties like Squid or Sissy without you. You have made it possible for CRAN to care for more than 1,100 cats last year, and more than 250 new additions to our program in the first 5 months of 2023. Additionally, we have been able to spay and neuter community cats through our Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-and-Release program. Ultimately, spaying/neutering is the answer to decreasing the need for rescues. On the property where Sissy had her kittens, there were 15 other cats. So far, we have fixed 13 cats and are working on the last two.
CRAN is a foster-based, all-volunteer organization. We receive no tax dollars from Eugene, Springfield or Lane County; we are dependent on our donors, our partners, and our CRAN volunteers to help the cats and kittens in our care.
We are receiving requests for assistance (surrender, help with spay/neuter costs, TNR assistance for feral colonies) on a daily basis, and thanks to your generosity we have been able to continue answering many of these calls for help. We need your help now to continue being able to help cats in need. As you all know, the cost of everything has increased in the past year. Food, litter, and medical care are no exceptions. Your donation goes directly to help the cats in our program with food, foster supplies, and medical care.
