United Palace for Arts and Culture

Built in 1930 as one of five Loew’s “Wonder Theatres,” the United Palace began its existence as one of the region’s premier vaudeville and movie houses. Throughout its long history, the United Palace has provided a diverse range of programming to Northern Manhattan, including local art exhibits, community events, youth performances, movie screenings, and spiritual discussions.

Today, we offer a range of self-produced and hosted programming that serves as a testament to our commitment to providing diverse and accessible arts experiences uptown  to enrich our community members' lives.

: Co-produced with the generous support of the Miranda Family Fund, now in its second year, this program screens six movies each year, each one hosted by Lin-Manuel Miranda and his special guests. All screenings are free to the public, allowing everyone to enjoy the magic of cinema.  

: Celebrating inspiration, the arts, and community. Gathering monthly as a new community of artists and art lovers, collectively exploring the ways that inspiration, or "The Muse," elevates our daily lives. This multifaceted event includes guest speakers, artistic offerings, audience discussions, and opening and closing rituals. 

Bachateria: From the Fields to the Palace

: New for 2023, this indoor festival will showcase  local artists performing music from the beloved bachata genre. The festival will be followed by a documentary film exploring the history and future of this captivating music. This event supports local artists and contributes to the vibrant cultural tapestry of our community. 

: As the longest-running program at the United Palace, this monthly series features interviews with experts from various spiritual practices. From the Abrahamic religions to Zoroastrianism, these conversations are posted online for free, allowing individuals to explore and appreciate the richness of different faith traditions. 

: We collaborate with local artists, printing and displaying their artwork in a dozen outdoor locations on our building. This initiative not only supports local talent but also adds vibrant and engaging elements to our surroundings.   

Additionally, we provide a platform for other arts non-profits and individuals to showcase their talent and content. These programs rely on our support to ensure their successful execution and to cover various costs associated with hosting the event.  

The United Palace also plays a vital role in hosting various community initiatives. We open our doors to the Lobby Series, welcoming local artists and art organizations to showcase their talent in our Foyer. Most of these events are free to attend. We have also been proud hosts of the PS 187 Film Festival, featuring short films created by students, the Dominican Film Festival's premiere venue for the past several years, the Dominican Day Parade kickoff locstion, and we actively participate in the annual Turkey Giveaway organized by local elected officials to provide hundreds of free frozen birds.
