I serve on the Board of Directors of Columbia Housing Center because I care about our community. Howard County is consistently rated as a top place to live because of our amenities, diversity, and excellent schools. All of these exist now because developer James Rouse envisioned “a city in a garden” that would be open and welcoming to all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or income level. This Fair Housing Month, we’re reminded that the fight for housing equity is far from over.

While federal protections are being rolled back and national commitments to fair housing are weakening, Columbia Housing Center is doubling down. We’re standing strong to protect the founding values of our community: that people of every race, income, religion, and background deserve equal access to housing—and to opportunity.

	Educate home seekers and property owners on fair housing rights and responsibilities

	Support integrated neighborhoods across Columbia

	Advocate for housing equity and more affordable housing at the local and state levels

	Provide tools and resources so every family has a real choice in where they live

We’re doing this work because it matters—and because it’s more urgent than ever.
