Help us celebrate #GivingTuesday for the first time!
2020 rocked the world! It left everyone 'high and dry' BUT despite the pandemic, typhoons and all the rest of the world's craziness, many kids are still really sick and still need your help! We can still saves lives together, but we need your help!
Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries Philippines Inc. (HHM) is a Christian, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) for children in crisis situations who need a safe refuge, assistance, and intervention, trauma-informed care, psychosocial support, spiritual support, medical help, and someone to advocate for their rights. HHM believes that children belong in families and so we work hard at family preservation whenever possible and after exhausting every effort to keep a child in their biological family or in Kinship care, we support adoption, both domestic and international.
In our two homes in the heart of Baguio City Philippines, we offer 24 hr, alternative family-style, residential care where children can stay until they can be reunited with their families or until they are adopted or learn to live independently. Each home offers various programs including social work, medical, home life, nutritional, recreational, educational, adoption, counseling, and Christian living programs for children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, surrendered, or who are sick and in need of medical attention.
We work alongside local hospitals, churches, local government units (LGU’s) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as well as the City Social Welfare and Development offices (CSWDO) to monitor and respond to the needs of children within the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and beyond. We work closely with DSWD and the Intercountry Adoption Board to facilitate adoptions for children who could not be reunified with their families. We also work with international organizations like CAFO to stay abreast in learning globally the best ways forward for children from hard places and allow it to inform our care and to be guided on how best to incorporate our God-Centered approach into our professional work.
A short story of hope...
Last year we a young guy called Felix in the local hospital while we were giving out Christmas shoeboxes as gifts. He was weak, dying, and felt hopeless. He had been diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in his leg and the prognosis wasn't good. His leg was the first thing you would have noticed about him and the second was that despite the pain he was in, he was determined to live. We took his desire to live and decided to support him through his treatment.
During lockdown he got stranded in his province and wasn't able to continue this treatment but thankfully, he was able to contact us and ask if he could come live at our Children's Recovery Unit to be able to continue his treatment. He is now thriving and surviving because we said YES! We could only say YES because YOU helped. You gave, you prayed and you supported us so we could support him and others like him. Lets keep doing it!
Your support has made all the difference to this child! It is helping us to keep saving and changing lives for kids and their families.
