In Loving Memory of Barbara Gibbs
December 14, 1947 – May 22, 2026
Barbara Gibbs was born to Dorothy Scott and Frank Oberlton and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the only girl and the youngest sibling to four brothers.
Barbara had a creative spirit and a gift for making beautiful things. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was known for creating beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements. She also loved to cook, and her family will always remember the special dishes she perfected, including macaroni salad, pepper steak, peach cobbler, sour cream cake, and her spaghetti made with ground beef, Italian sausage, and homemade sauce.
Barbara was fashionably stylish and loved shopping. She enjoyed layering her favorite rings, bracelets, and necklaces, always bringing her own sense of beauty and personality into every room she entered. She also loved sweet treats, especially ice cream, cakes, cookies, brownies, and Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets.
Barbara was a woman of deep faith. Before moving to Texas, she was a faithful member of Chosen Generation Church of God in Christ congregation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2017, Barbara moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she became a member of Resurrection Church. She loved singing church hymns, serving in the church, helping others, and staying connected with friends and family.
Barbara brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She was a jokester who was known to “perfect” cheating at Uno and other games, all in the spirit of fun, laughter, and love.
To her family, Barbara was known as Mommy to J Maurice (his wife Cynthia) and Terry; Mom-Mom to JaLeesa, Kasia, T.J., and Yesenia; Great Grandma to Kassidy, TJ, Miles, and Tyson; and Aunt Neta to a host of nieces and nephews.
Barbara loved and was deeply loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is rejoicing in heaven with the Lord and lives on as an ancestor to those who know they will see her again one day.
In place of flowers, and because there will not be a funeral service, Barbara’s family invites friends and loved ones to honor her memory by making a donation to the Texas Kidney Foundation.
Your memorial gift in Barbara’s honor will help support kidney health education, community screening, resource navigation, referral support, and follow-through for individuals and families across Texas.
