Mastherpiece

Through the amazing support of our network, in the Spring of 2020, two of our senior members each received $500 scholarship rewards as they transition to college. The goal of the senior scholarship program is to award senior members of MastHERpiece, our current and future graduates, financial means to pursue success outside of the classroom. Our $3,000 goal this year is to support more seniors and more young women to pursue any dream they may have to achieve their wildest dreams!

Training today’s teens to become tomorrow’s Queens!

MastHERpiece is a Durham, NC 501(c)3 organization with a mission to provide young women, ages 13-18, with the opportunity to identify, appreciate, and nurture their talents through the platforms of our

 E4 Model: Engagement, Education, Encouragement, and Empowerment. 

Since our founding in March 2019, MastHERpiece has impacted 16 student members who represent 11 underserved high schools in Durham, NC. Our members accompanied by mentors and board members have hosted numerous events as well as community service projects aiding in the success of young women. Everyday MastHERpiece teaches our young women what it means to nurture their talents, dig deeper for their passions, and redefine success to what makes sense for their individual personalities.  

Events that engage our youth and highlight different paths to success

 hosted by Microsoft, several of our young ladies to become more assertive, empowered, and confident in themselves and their dreams. 

 our amazing young women were determined to create balance in their academic, social and work lives. The ladies were able to discuss their dreams and desires. At the event each young woman was able to create vision boards so that they can put actions into motion. 

Empowering young women to change their futures and positively impact the world around them!

. I major in Pre-Nursing and plan on furthering my education after college to become a travel nurse. I want to pursue this field because I get to do some of the things I love: Helping others and going new places. MastHERpiece has given me gems and keys to succeed and take with me. The scholarship was another way of saying, 

MastHERpiece worked hard in raising money to help us  along the way. I’m honored to have been been apart of this sisterhood! 

Hello, my name is Rayal Smith and I am a first year Chemistry major at the 

. I plan on exploring the area of toxicology and forensic science.

Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances of COVID-19, I found it more beneficial to use the MastHERpiece scholarship in assisting the financial need of getting a laptop for college, rather than experience my dreams to learn about a variety of cultures through study abroad. I do still have it as a goal of mine to travel the world later on in my college career because it is something that I have always dreamed of doing. Currently, I have been very successful in my first semester of college; and I am very grateful for the ways that the MastHERpiece Program has helped me. I do still have big dreams to take flight and pursue world travels to see what the world has to offer culturally and academically so that I can succeed and grow as an individual. 

Chiamaka Chidera Emezie is a second generation Nigerian-American immigrant born and raised in Durham North Carolina. She’s an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme student at Hillside High School. Emezie is also part of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University Teen Council as well as SHIFT NC’s Youth Advisory Council. She likes to read and write and is always ready for a conversation about stories; her outfits are incomplete without a book. Emezie has been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for excellence in creative writing and photography. After graduation in June 2021, Emezie plans to study Education at her dream school, University of Pennsylvania.  

A Chapel Hill native, Lauryn Goins is a Tarheel born, bred, and raised. As a current senior at Josephine Dobbs Clement Early College High School, she is a culturally enlightened student determined to defeat her weaknesses and mold them into newfound strengths. Following graduation in May, she plans to continue to pursue her degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine at the illustrious North Carolina Central University. Future educational plans also include continuing her post-secondary education at Winston Salem State University in their Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Her dream career is to become a licensed, travel Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina and encourage more like-minded minorities to join in the field with her. As an active member of many community service-based clubs and organizations, her lifelong passion is to serve her community and empower young women to do anything they set their mind to, and more. In her “free time” she enjoys traveling, singing, spending time with friends and family, and listening to music.
