Reopen L88 and Fly Cuyama!
A gift of $40,000 would fulfill our entire scope of work to reopen the airstrip.
Help Reopen a California GA Airport and Support a Rural Community – New Cuyama Airport (L88)
An opportunity has arisen for aviation enthusiasts to not only help reopen a California airport, but at the same time support a rural community. As a bonus, pilots also gain a new fly-in destination and your donation is tax-deductible!
The Cuyama Valley's beloved L88 airstrip is managed and maintained by Blue Sky Center, a community nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen our Cuyama Valley communities by supporting entrepreneurs and building our creative and economic resources. As a community center with entrepreneurship at its core, we have worked diligently to create accessible and engaging facilities that house small business incubation, hospitality accommodations, and a resource development center.
Our airstrip is critical to emergency support for Cuyama communities. It also serves as a portal for flying visitors to experience all the Cuyama Valley has to offer. Even for pilots-in-training, our airport has gained widespread appeal as a go-to airport for computer simulator training!
We have not charged pilots to use our airstrip and as a nonprofit rely on outside support to enhance the safety and use of our facilities. If you would like to continue flying beautiful Cuyama, please consider supporting our community airstrip!
We have received a generous pledge of $375,000 from The San Simeon Fund to allow us to complete the resurfacing of L88 in Summer 2022. While that amount is sufficient to complete the resurfacing work, we have additional related projects that are needed to fully reopen the airport. We are looking for $50,000 of support to help us execute our full scope of work to officially reopen our community’s airstrip! The Goals Window at the upper right helps you see our current funding level and how your donation help us achieve our next goal.
In addition to cash donations, if you are interested in supporting in-kind with materials to help us reduce costs, please contact us at ssapping@aol.com; michaeljkentinc@gmail.com; em@blueskycenter.org
