For nearly 95 years the United Palace has been known for its concerts, film premieres, and other special events. 

What is highlighted less often, but is no less important, is that for 12 years the non-profit United Palace of Cultural Arts has supported local young and emerging artists as well as uptown audiences at the only regularly operating theatre in Washington Heights.

During 2024, which we dubbed The Year of Friendship, UPCA's programming had its greatest impact ever as we:

Hosted over 2,000 young, emerging, and professional artists

UPCA approaches its mission to uplift, educate, and unite Northern Manhattan, and beyond through four programs:

 Providing opportunities for local youth and emerging artists to perform and present in a world-class theatre.

 Producing and presenting professional artists who reflect the culture of our Dominican and Latino neighbors.

Curating innovative performances that inspire a wider range of musicians and audiences to discover the genre. 

 Honoring the theatre's roots as a movie palace and vaudeville house by staging screenings to reinvent the experience of Golden Age cinema and bring movies to life.

We are busy planning our 2025 season, working to support an incredible collection of local artists and arts organizations such as: Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, Jazz Power Initiative, Literature to Life, and Leadlights Ensemble.

We will leave you with a highlight from 2024 that is a perfect example of The Year of Friendship. In November before we screened Steven Spielberg's classic "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" we hosted the Young People's Chorus of New York City and Washington Heights Community Choir performing the first ever vocal rendition of the famous "conversation" between the humans and aliens at the climax of the movie.
