Katie Adamson Conservation Fund

Help us reach our goal of $25,000.  This amount is needed annually to fund travel for health care professionals and Zookeepers, medical supplies, project event, and local community engagement and education efforts.

In 2010, Denver zookeeper Dave Johnson led a group of volunteers to Nepal, aiming to learn about rhino and elephant conservation and to explore how their community could contribute from afar.  While an independent endeavor, this initiative coincided with Denver Zoo's plans to introduce the greater one-horned rhino and become a holding facility for Asian elephant bulls.  The team's journey inspired the formation of "Team Nepalorado," a fusion of Colorado and Nepal, united by a shared mission - a fusion of cultures in the name of conservation.

Since then, the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund (KACF) has made annual trips to Nepal, collaborating with the NTNC (National Trust for Nature Conservation) and local travel partner Travel Nepal Now.  Together, they've facilitated elephant health camps, providing essential care such as foot treatments, vaccinations, and health assessments.  In 2023, their efforts expanded to include 115 elephants in Chitwan National Park and surrounding areas.

Beyond veterinary care, KACF addresses human-elephant conflicts by supplying communities with tools like camera traps, drones, and LED lights to deter elephants from entering villages.  They've also supported the establishment of an elephant festival in Jhapa, promoting coexistence in high-conflict zones.

Help us reach our goal of $25,000.  This amount is needed annually to fund travel for health care professionals and Zookeepers, medical supplies, project event, and local community engagement and education efforts.
