Plumbing Problems, Community Solutions: Let’s Fix It Together
This is the total estimated cost of the second set of repairs. We need your help to improve our pipes and prevent backflow to our restrooms.
Our Story
At Iron County Care and Share, we provide essential services like food, shelter, and support to those in need within our community. But now, we’re facing a major issue that could seriously impact our ability to continue offering these critical services—an exterior drainpipe that’s no longer functioning properly.
This drainpipe is supposed to carry away water from our gutters and melted snow. However, it’s clogged and damaged, causing flooding near one of our building’s ramps. In winter, this water freezes, creating dangerous sheets of ice that threaten the safety of our guests and staff. Without immediate repairs, the problem will only get worse as the weather turns colder. Moving this pipe and completing these repairs will also cause potential backflow problems to our restrooms in our shelter.
Why We Need Your Help
Two essential repair projects need your support to keep our facility safe and accessible.
First, we need to raise $6,000 to address a critical exterior drainage issue before winter. This repair will stop flooding and ice buildup, ensuring that our building remains safe and accessible for everyone we serve.
Additionally, we need to raise $4,000 to repair interior plumbing and prevent backflow issues in the restrooms, which are vital for maintaining a clean and functional environment for our guests and staff.
Your support will make a lasting difference in keeping our facility safe, welcoming, and operational for the community!
Here’s what the repair work involves:
- Spot repair or replacement of the damaged drainpipe
- Excavate or hand dig to expose the damaged pipe
- Cut and remove the damaged section
- Install a new section of pipe to ensure proper drainage
- Backfill and compact the area
- Add new gravel and clean out accumulated silt
Additionally, the drainpipe that currently routes water from the gutters and melting ice into the ramp area will be re-piped to a safer location. This will prevent future flooding and ice formation that has made the area dangerous for guests and staff alike.
It's a large project that requires a lot of work.
