Charles Manning '82 and his wife, Ann, have generously offered to match donations to the WCAMC Scholarship Fund of up to $2,500, for the remainder of this year.

Message from the Chair of the WCAMC Scholarship Committee

Our club has an outstanding opportunity to really build up our A&M scholarship fund, not just this year, but in the future.  This year we returned to our live Fundraising BBQ and brought back the auctions and raffles. These efforts raised $2,450; however, the big jump was in the private donations. Charles Manning ’82 and his wife, Ann, generously donated $5,000, the largest individual donation ever made to our club, which raised the total including the BBQ auctions and raffles to $11,263. 

In addition, he also offered a matching grant up to $2,500 for the remainder of this year. We now have two months to raise that amount to match Charles and Ann’s generous offer. 

This challenge is very doable; all it takes is for 25 WCAMC members to contribute $100 each. All of the WCAMC Board members have already pledged to contribute to the effort. Now we are challenging other members to follow suit and add something to this drive as a means of giving back to those who helped you along the way. 

There are 216 on the WCAMC email list and if we all just gave a small amount to the fund we could easily surpass our goal. If all 216 contributed only $11.57 we would meet our goal. That’s less than the cost of buying a tee shirt for a Maroon Out at game time. 

Aggies, we can do this! Aggies are great at helping, especially other Aggies and it will be most gratifying to everyone who pitches in. OBTW, 

But wait, there is more! Charles has extended this offer for the next eight years! We are most grateful to him for taking such a generous lead in boosting our fundraising program. Those of us on the scholarship committee are thrilled. 

The scholarships are awarded to local students who have been accepted to A&M and they help defray the cost of out-of-state tuition. With this tremendous boost to our fundraising effort, the WCMAC will be able to help them clear that obstacle more readily.

Aggies helping Aggies - a tradition of caring.

I have lived in WNC for my entire life, but I chose to pursue my academic career at Texas A&M because of its stellar reputation in engineering. Receiving the Western Carolina A&M Club Scholarship for my senior year gave me the freedom to focus on academics and applying to graduate schools. Because of this, I received many great graduate offers. However, I chose to stay in Aggieland with the opportunity to enter the Texas A&M direct to Ph.D. program for structural engineering on fellowship.

I would just like to say thank you to everyone who donates to the scholarship fund as it has helped me tremendously since I am paying out of state tuition. The scholarship is always pushing me to become a better student and person here at A&M because I know there are people supporting me throughout my journey. It has been an honor to receive the scholarship the past 4 years and I hope to be able to give back when my time at A&M comes to an end. 

The John Humble Memorial Scholarship helped me realize my dream of following in my mother’s footsteps in attending Texas A&M. I had the opportunity to fall more in love with A&M, have an incredible graduate school experience, meet my spouse, and make many lifelong friends — and I ended up spending five years in Aggieland! I will always be thankful for the generous WNC Ags who helped support me on my journey.
