Wild River is an enrichment program that serves children from TK to 8th grade seeking a Waldorf education in Truckee, CA or the greater North Lake Tahoe area.
Wild River aligns with the World Waldorf Mission Statement:
"To awaken each student's capacity for love of learning, for independent thinking, and for heartfelt service to the world."
Our vision aims to:
- Honor children’s growth and development in their own time and in their own way: Inspire wonder-filled creativity and lifelong curiosity.
- Offer learning opportunities for children ages 4 - 13 that prepare them to move into higher learning with confidence in not only their academic skills, but their capacity to be innovative in thought.
- Nurture connections with nature so that children may be responsible stewards of Earth; strive to always create an atmosphere of rhythm, well-being, harmony and warmth.
- Build a strong community that encourages involvement, strengthens families and supports and promotes a balanced lifestyle.
Wild River's mission to continue to honor the wonder of childhood begins with a program that focuses on educating the whole child by igniting imagination (wilder), opening hearts (wider), and developing independent and ethical thinkers (wonder-filled).
The curriculum is Common Core aligned, developmentally appropriate, grounded in rhythm and relationship, and prioritizes peer building, ample time in nature, and place-based educational programs. Unique cornerstones of the Waldorf curriculum and Wild RIver’s program exist in specialty classes of Handwork, Music, Spanish, Gardening, Eco - Literacy, and Cyber Civics. Also, ingrained in the program, is an acknowledgement of the importance of family-balance.
- Our Wild River Fund will serve to anchor the program's operational needs,
- Enable the growth of specialty programs and teachers,
- Expand assistance to families who desire Waldorf education for their children.
