Maui’s unique plants, wildlife, and natural landscapes are part of what makes our island so special. But invasive species threaten the ecosystems, agriculture, and way of life that make Maui home. Once established, these species can spread quickly and become difficult and costly to control.

The Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC) works to protect Maui County by finding, controlling, and removing high-threat invasive plants and animals. We focus on species that can still be eradicated or contained, helping prevent further spread and reducing the damage they can cause to our island’s natural resources.

Our work fills a critical gap in invasive species management across Maui County. By working with scientists, land managers, and partners from state, county, federal, and private organizations, we identify priority species and use effective survey and control methods to address these threats.

Every effort matters. Early detection and rapid response can make the difference between stopping an invasive species before it spreads and facing a much larger challenge in the future.

MISC is a project of the University of Hawaiʻi–Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit. Our work is supported by county, state, and federal grants, along with private grants and donations. Community support helps strengthen our efforts to address high-threat invasive species and protect the natural resources we all depend on.

Your donation helps support the ongoing work of identifying threats, conducting surveys, controlling invasive species, and raising awareness about the importance of protecting Maui.

Protecting Maui is a shared responsibility. Whether you donate, share our story, or help spread the word about invasive species, you can be part of the solution.

Together, we can take action today to help protect Maui’s unique environment for future generations.

Donate today and help MISC protect Maui from invasive species. Every contribution supports the work of keeping our island’s natural heritage thriving.
